Flower Crown Making Hens Day Hosted by Summerblossom in Sydney
In February of this year I had the pleasure of hosting a lovely group of 15 ladies celebrating a hens day with a flower crown workshop! Organised by Kerensa, Alison and friends, the afternoon was delightful.
I can't remember if it was my alarm or baby April (likely!) who woke me up at 4am for the flower markets, but it is always worth heading there nice and early because the stalls were abundant with paper daisies, roses, baby's breath - all perfect flower types for making flower crowns.
I adore these shared creative experiences. There's nothing quite like the atmosphere when working with gorgeously-scented fresh flowers in one hand, and with a glass of bubbly in the other. Even one or two of the more hesitant participants soon found their creativity flowing with a little gentle encouragement, and inspiration in the colourful flowers. And that's the lovely thing about flower-crown making - you can't really get it wrong! Sometimes the less-structured and more "wild" crowns are the most beautiful.
After the 2 hour workshop, the girls then made their way to the next venue - adorned with stunning flower crowns atop their heads.

Botanically Dyed Lavender Play Dough DIY
Yesterday was a pretty grey ol' afternoon and our plans were cancelled last-minute so Violet and I had some time while April slept. On a bit of a whim, we thought it could be fun to make some playdough.
I could have perhaps looked up a recipe but why Google something that takes a few seconds when you can make it up and hope for the best! I also thought it would be interesting to see if Violet could problem-solve and so I let her add the plain flour and botanically-dyed (and strained) water as she thought it was necessary. I also added a drop of olive oil (not sure if that's a thing, just felt like the dough needed it!). It was super easy.
To begin with, we gathered some petals from our backyard and boiled them up. With hindsight, I probably should have let them soak for a little while to get a brighter colour because the colour was pretty weak.
Although that ended up being a bit of a blessing as we then had the idea to add some Lavender essential oil and Lavender petals from our garden.
Violet played with the dough for a while, but I'll let you in on a little secret. When she went to bed, I actually found the dough to be such a lovely stress-reliever! Just rolling it releases the most beautiful scent and that, with a cup of tea, was a welcome way to end my Sunday night.
Hope you enjoy our little floral DIY project.

ps. April woke up just as we were finishing up. I dare you not to smile at those teeny little teeth popping through!

Garden Fairy Wing Craft
Violet has just turned three and is getting to the lovely age where we can craft and cook together, so I thought I'd start sharing a few of our projects here.
This week an old pair of fairy wings needed repairing as the elastic had been stretched to almost breaking point in a few places. So, we gave them a garden fairy facelift with some spare flowers, bows and sparkles I had lying around the studio and our trusty hot glue gun. Violet loved being involved in the creative process and has been flying around our house and garden ever since.
Would you like to see our tiny outdoor fairy garden next? Let me know!

DJ Tigerlily Wears Nothing But a Crown Made of Vegetables in New Peta Ad
A flower crown with no flowers, only vegetables √
For a top-secret celebrity photo-shoot √
We need it ASAP! √
That was my brief... I'll be the first to admit it was a challenge, however, I was up for it! Off I went in search of small, dense veggies like brussel sprouts and corn that could be wired into a crown of veggies and modelled by the gorgeous DJ Tigerlilly.
And here is the result! What do you think?
Sydney Children's Hospital Gold Day Fundraiser
It's always such an honour to be asked to attend any events at the Sydney Children's Hospital, and today was no exception. We absolutely loved making flower crowns with each and every patient, sibling, friend and/or family member. Thanks so much for having Summerblossom there, Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation.
Love & Light,
Rochelle
